COLD WATER TANK UPGRADE - SEVERN VALLEY

These water tanks in this wonderful location were leaking and corroding badly. NDT testing showed the tanks surfaces needed restructuring to give them a new lease of life.

This pair of steel water tanks in the Severn Valley were leaking and corroding badly internally.

It was an easy decision to upgrade these tanks by applying a fibreglass lining system to the internal walls and floor.

A scaffold platform was erected up to and around the tanks for safe access and egress. Consequently we worked safely de-sludging and grit blasting.

We brought in a local scaffolder to erect platforms up to the tanks for access and egress, enabling us to work safely throughout the repair and refurbishment.
After the internal surfaces were scraped relatively clean we keyed the surfaces by grit blasting using Hodge Clemco JBlast Supa blasting as the media.

Layers of woven and chopped strand fibreglass were applied to the blast cleaned and keyed internal surfaces, encapsulating all the riveted joints and completely restructuring the tanks.

After the preparatory gritblasting and priming, layers of woven fibreglass and chopped strand fibreglass matting were applied to the surfaces and wetted out with Lloyds approved isophthalic polyester resin.

The cured fibreglass lining was completely sealed with an isopthalic gelcoat, protecting the surfaces for the next 25 years.
